Astralis cements legacy, wins FACEIT Major London 2018

Danish team Astralis solidifies their claim as CS:GO's best team as they convincingly take down Natus Vincere in the finals of the FACEIT Major. The win rewards them 500,000 USD and a Legend Status on the upcoming IEM Katowice Major on February next year.

The team had an impeccable showing in the event, climbing up from the New Challengers stage before another strong performance in the New Legends portion. While they finished just 3-1 in both stages, they were still the most dominant team pre-playoffs as they scored a +26 round differential on both segments - the highest differential among any other team. Their two losses are two overtime matches, the first one being a 26-28 marathon loss to Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Their playoffs performance is even more impressive, showing pristine form from the first round to the finals. Team Liquid and Natus Vincere, their semifinals and finals opponent, both weren't able to take more than ten rounds in a map against them. The former is one of the two teams which has won a map against Astralis this event.

The takedown of NaVi says a lot about how dominant Astralis were, as the former appeared to be the clear second in this event. The Ukrainian organization is perfect in the FACEIT Major if you take away their three map losses - all coming from the hands of Astralis. The Danes were so in control in the finals that they were able to tally wins even on their economy rounds.

Astralis bags 500,000 USD for this win, half of the 1M USD total prize pool of this event. Runner-up NaVi and third placer MiBR take home 150,000 and 70,000 USD respectively.

Astralis solidifies their claim as the world's best CS:GO team. This is already their fifth gold just this year, the most recent title being the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2018. For 2018 alone, they have already amassed a hefty purse of more than 1.75M USD in prize winnings.

FACEIT Major: London 2018 is Valve's 13th CS:GO Major, with the first one going all the way back 2013. Astralis joins Fnatic and the current MiBR squad as the only teams who have won multiple majors. As for NaVi, this is their third Major runner-up finish. The next major is IEM Katowice Major 2019 in Katowice, Poland scheduled February next year.
