Astralis, Liquid head straight to IEM Major Champions Stage

Day 2 of the Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII - Katowice Major 2019: New Legends Stage is all wrapped up, paving way for the world’s top two teams to punch their tickets to the playoffs.

The third round of the New Legends Stage kicked off with the high matches between Renegades versus Astralis followed by Team Liquid and Natus Vincere.

Fans were left at the edge of their seats as Renegades pushed Astralis to the limits in their opening map – Mirage, where the Danish club started wide open 12-3. The Australians then began to claw their way back at the 2nd half as they force overtime and eventually wrapped up the map 19-17 to take the advantage. They continued their momentum in map 2 which was Nuke – a map famous for Astralis’ longest winning streak in pro CS history now standing at 29. Though despite the challenge, the Danes went on to take the map 16-9 and eventually the series 16-2 with a shutdown in Inferno.

The 2nd series meanwhile was a 2-0 performance from Team Liquid who are aiming to take over the top spot from rivals Astralis. They were able to disappoint the FACEIT Major finalists Navi 16-14 and 16-9 in Mirage and Dust II respectively.

Ninjas in Pyjamas, MIBR, Team Vitality and AVANGAR also found themselves on the winning side of round 3 while Cloud9, G2 Esports, HellRaisers and Faze Clan stumbled down as they were held back 1-2 after rough BO1 performances - just one defeat away from elimination.

Down the bottom of the Swiss groups, it became the end of the road for BIG Clan and NRG Esports as they both finished 0-3 on the group stage. BIG came to the Major as a current Legend while the North Americans worked their way from the regional Minors up to a clean sweep on the New Challengers Stage.

Three more teams will advance to the Champions Stage tonight as IEM Katowice continues with the High Matches of round 4.
