Back to China: The MDL Changsha Major is here!

The Dota 2 world takes its attention back to the Dota Pro Circuit as the MDL Changsha Major is about to take off in a few hours.

The third to last Major of the inaugural DPC season will be a crucial stretch for key teams who are vying for the remaining 5 TI8 invite slots, and the job might look like easier than expected after Virtus.Pro and Team Liquid who already locked in their TI8 slots have decided to pass on the Major. Let’s look at the teams’ DPC pictures.

The Secret is secured

Heavy contenders Team Secret have mathematically secured a direct invite to Vancouver after finishing third at the recently concluded GESC Thailand Minor, but we still have to see Clement 'Puppey' Ivanov’s boys gain back their Major-winning form and MDL might be the best chance for them to do so.

More entries, more chances of winning?

As per Optic Gaming Captain Peter 'ppd' Dager’s ever-bold-statements, the MDL Major has 5 out of the 12 participants coming from China, with three spots coming from the DPL.Top Season 5, an all-Chinese tournament. This fact raises concerns among some community members.

Newbee, ViCi Gaming and PSG.LGD are all currently at the Top 8 of the DPC Ladders, and a second place finish will bring at least one of them straight to TI8.

Invictus Gaming meanwhile, will try to enter the DPC ladders after a rough season where the only Valve-sanctioned LAN they played was at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018, placing lowly with a 9-12th place. On the other hand, their sister team IG.Vitality will look to impress despite losing their TI invite eligibility. SEA pubstar Galvin 'Meracle' Kang Jian Wen will boost IG.V’s DPC debut.

Betting on SEA Dota

Mineski is looking to lock in their TI8 slot with a Top 2 finish at MDL and whatever happens to them, they still have 2 other Majors to play namely ESL One Birmingham and China Dota 2 Supermajor. It might be safe to say that SEA’s frontrunners are in good hands.

As per TNC Predator, the Filipino squad is looking to climb up the ladders with their 2nd to the last LAN tournament. They are currently 14th, practically 12th due to OG’s post-lockdown roster shuffle and FlyToMoon not having any DPC LAN to play. They need to either win the MDL Major or place at least second at the Supermajor to break into the invites.

Vega Squadron is about to play their last DPC event and no matter how slim their chances are, they still have a shot at making it through DPC’s Top 8 if they win the tournament.

OG, Infamous, and VGJ.Storm are already slated for the TI8 Open Qualifiers of their respective regions. OG is still looking to gain back their winning form that saw them secure the MDL Macau Minor title, while VGJ.Storm will try to solidify their presence at the NA scene with another strong performance after winning the recent GESC Thailand Minor. Infamous meanwhile will, still, try to prove that South American Dota is not a nuisance.
