The next season will begin in January
Valve, it seems like, has a lot on its plate. They introduced changes to DPC, and then the whole controversy surrounding Kuku and his use of racial slurs must have definitely shaken them up. They also partnered up with Perfect World in China to officially launch Steam in the country. Then, there was the Battle Royale mode in CS:GO along with the game becoming free to play.
Needless to say, focusing on these things might have caused all the delay in the new ranked season for Dota 2. Also, the delay in the much awaited Frostivus. At least we now know that the new ranked season will definitely be coming. The official Dota 2 account yesterday tweeted that the new ranked season, which will be the third one, will start come January. The tweet said that “anyone on the verge of their next Rank Medal still has a few more weeks to level up their game.”
As per the initial plan by Valve, ranked seasons are supposed to last 6 months each. This season started on the 6th of June, so we should have had the next season by the 6th of December. But as they say, better late than never.
The community is also expecting more from Valve when the new season starts. Specifically a new hero. Valve had announced two new heroes at TI8 this year, Grimstroke and Mars. While Grimstroke was immediately released, Valve said that Mars would release in the coming winter. And if you are living in the Northern Hemisphere, winter has come. So we can expect to see Mars along with the update that will bring the new ranked season.
In case you missed it, Frostivus is already here, along with the Rubick Arcana.
