Dota 2’s Treasure Update will allow you to see the odds

To comply with the gambling laws and the ongoing lootbox controversy, Valve has brought some changes in their new Treasure Update.

The lootbox controversy is quite old now, but its effects can still be felt. In a new Treasure Update, Valve has revealed that players will now be able to see the odds of getting the rare treasures. In the official blog post, Valve said:

“We’ve also taken this opportunity to simplify and rework the way we calculate escalating odds for this treasure and going forward. You can now click on the escalating odds arrow next to each of the rare, very rare, or extremely rare drops to see the exact odds of receiving them based on how many you’ve already opened.”

This update comes along with the new treasure, Treasure of the Carmine Cascade, which is the Fall 2018 Treasure. The odds are dynamic: Escalating odds increases your chances of receiving the rare, very rare or extremely rare drops with each treasure you open. The new feature will reflect those odds, which will change with every treasure opened rather than showing just a general drop percentage. Treasure of the Carmine cascade has bundles for Ancient Apparition, Ember Spirit, Oracle, Batrider, Visage, Skywrath Mage, and Razor. In addition, if you are lucky, you might also receive a rare Earthshaker bundle, a very rare Dark Willow bundle, or an extremely rare Nature’s Prophet bundle.

This isn’t the first time Valve will be revealing the odds though. After Netherland’s Gaming authority found that Dota 2’s lootboxes violated the country’s gambling laws, Valve was sent a notice. In response to that, Valve allowed the Dutch Dota 2 players to see what they were going to get before they even opened the boxes. They were also limited to only purchasing one treasure at a time.

Elsewhere in the Treasure Update, Dota Plus subscribers will be able to convert unwanted rewards from this treasure into treasure fragments. When they have acquired 6 fragments from the same treasure, they are automatically transformed into an extra copy of that treasure and 2000 Dota Plus shards.
