Faze Clan, Fnatic finish at the bottom of ESL One New York 2018

ESL One New York 2018 came in full throttle just after Astralis bagged the FACEIT Major trophy in London less than a week ago.

The 8 team tournament featured top calibre teams Faze Clan, Natus Vincere and Fnatic but surprise, all these teams were dropped out right after the group stage.

That concludes Day 3 of #ESLOne New York & the group stage along with it 🙌

London’s Fallen is now on top

Mousesports, fresh from their rather disappointing performance in London where they bow out 0-3 at the New Legends Stage are now steaming past group A after a 2-1 win over Fnatic topped by a 16-3 performance in Mirage at the third map.

IGL Chris “chrisJ” de Jong went further to stop Gambit from their own momentous opener as they delivered another 2-1 win against the CIS team to finish on top of their group.

Gambit is back!

The former Major Champions never got back to their former selves since their win in Krakow last year, until now. Gambit opened the group stage with a 2-1 statement win over Navi that includes a 16-4 opening map in Nuke.

They received a setback versus Gambit but they pulled off another surprise win in a decider rematch versus Navi, this time a 2-0 win to give vindication to their opener.

Back in London, Gambit won nothing but a single map in the New Challengers Stage while Navi pulled all the way to the grand finals before bowing to Astralis.

Looks like the addition of Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy who recently joined the CIS club as an on-loan coach is finally paying off.

NA CS dominates Group B

If Gambit’s case was not enough, Group B saw Faze Clan drop to the hands of G2 Esports and eventually, NRG. Jacob “FugLy” Medina and his boys fell victim to Liquid in their opener, but that loss was immediately forgotten as the lesser NA squad surprised CS fans after handing Faze Clan and G2 Esports each with a 2-0 win.

It was another day at the office for Liquid then. After their win against NRG, the top NA team dragged down G2 2-0 to claim the top spot for their groups.

ESL One New York 2018 will continue with the playoffs featuring Mousesports versus NRG to be followed by a Team Liquid and Gambit Esports showdown tomorrow, September 30.
