Nothing usual – Just Astralis, Natus Vincere and Team Liquid doing the jumpstart as the New Legends Stage of the Intel Extreme Masters Season XIII - Katowice Major 2019 commenced last night.
The 2nd part of the Major kicked off with the first 2 rounds of the Swiss group stage where the three mentioned teams won their first 2 set of rounds along with surprise front runner Renegades who staged a big upset over Faze Clan in round 2.
Navi had a blast with an opening win over G2 Esports before going an extra mile with a 25-22 win over Team Vitality who surprised many during their run at the New Challengers Stage. Liquid had a more stable run as they took down AVANGAR and NIP respectively with their own respective challenges while Astralis had shown why are they the world’s top ranked team with a 16-6 win over Complexity at Nuke – a map where they still have the longest winning streak in professional LAN now standing at 28 wins – and sweeping Cloud9 16-0 afterwards.
Sinkhole for Legends
Meanwhile, current Legends Complexity along with BIG Clan found themselves in a deep hole after starting 0-2. The North American squad who added Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert as a stand-in for Katowice also lost to MIBR while BIG Clan who recently took İsmailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş after all the hiatus from Space Soldiers started flat as they bow out against Vitality and G2. The bottom dwellers are joined by ENCE Esports and NRG who both finished at the better half of the New Challengers.
The IEM Katowice Major resumes tonight with the round 3 matches where 2 teams are set to advance and 2 other will have to pack out of Poland. All matches will be played in best of three with the exception of the four ‘mid’ matches which remains as BO1’s.
