Seven weeks of tense CS:GO action has finally been wrapped up as the European League of the Esports Championship Series Season 6 has come to an end
mouseports and Ninjas in Pyjamas will complete the four-team European cast who will fly to the Esports Stadium at Arlington, Texas at the ECS Finals.
Only two spots remain unoccupied at the last day of the EU League’s regular season. Major Champions Astralis and the rebuilding Team North have already secured the top 2 spots with a 17-1 (51pts) and 13-5 (39pts) win/loss record respectively.
A tight race
mouseports, NIP and Faze Clan were left in a tight place for the last 2 spots. Prior to the final day of competition, mouz and Faze are tied with 27 points. It so happened that both teams were set to duke it off at the last day of competition where Chris "chrisJ" de Jong clutched an upset via a 16-4 and 16-12 win over the European juggernauts on Mirage and Dust 2 respectively.
The two victories gave mouseports an additional 6 points and an assured spot at the finals whatever happens to NIP’s two remaining matches. Faze Clan’s hopes meanwhile relied on NIP, who only needs to win one of their two matches versus Fnatic to overtake Faze and claim the last spot at the finals.
And just as Faze Clan feared, NIP managed to defeat Fnatic 16-13 on Inferno before losing 14-16 in Overpass. Their single win that day gave them a 3 point lead over Faze clan to qualify at the LAN finals.
The cast is complete!
Joining them at the LAN finals will be their counterparts in ECS’s North American League. NRG Esports and Renegades will front the NA pool after ending up each with 13-5 records. They will be joined by MIBR and Team Liquid who had a similar situation as they fended off Cloud9 from making it to the finals.
