NRG downs optic at cs_summit 3 grand final

NRG Esports reigned over the Summit House by taking down lower bracket challengers Optic Gaming 3-1 at the grand finals of the cs_summit 3.

The American squad cruised above everyone else at the upper bracket of the competition by taking down Ghost Gaming, Heroic and BIG Clan to enter the grand finals with a 1 map advantage.

The Danish group meanwhile settled through a longer route at the lower brackets after initially bowing down to Complexity Gaming in their opener series. Down at the lower bracket, Optic went on to fire all cylinders to climb all the way to the finals. They took down Ghost, avenged their loss to Complexity and sooner upset BIG Clan to set the date with NRG.

Map 1: Nuke

Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov went mad in the pistol round as he literally destroyed Optic single handedly with his USP. This didn’t faze Optic though as they opted for a force buy that eventually paid off giving them a 3-1 upper hand. NRG went on to keep things in balance at the gun rounds that continued until the half ends 8-7 favoring the Danes.

Optic advanced at the switch by winning 5 of the first 6 rounds. They were however reset by NRG after taking crucial rounds to catch up as close as 14-15 but a mix buy at the final round sealed the deal for Optic to prevent overtime and take map 1.

Map 2: Overpass

Optic jived with their momentum to take the first 5 rounds in CT side. But as soon as Optic had pulled up their economy, the NA squad went on to salvage eco rounds that allowed them to climb back and end the half trailing by just 1.

The second half became an all NRG show. Their sturdy defense was too much for the Danes to penetrate as they denied all bomb plants and left Optic winless, flawlessly taking all nine rounds necessary to win 16-8 and regain the series lead.

Map 3: Mirage

Mirage began with NRG winning the pistol followed by force buys won by Optic. These exchange continued until Optic had a slim 5-4 lead at the initial rounds. After the close exchanges, Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte took over for NRG as he led the NRG defense to win the last six rounds of the half.

NRG went on to turn their strong defense into a more potent offense come switch. They blasted Optic’s CT side 6-1 to secure Mirage 16-6 and win the cs_summit 3 title.

Brehze was hailed as the tournament MVP, amassing a tournament high 1.34 average rating and playing as the top performer in their winning map against Optic Gaming.
