'Soldier: 76 is gay?' Overwatch Short Story Favors LGBTQ Community

The new short story released by Overwatch stirs up some sexuality issues.

Blizzard has just released a new short story for Ana, one of Overwatch's support heroes. 'Bastet' not only explores the looming past of Ana, but that of Soldier: 76's as well.

Ana has been following one of her targets in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Instead of finding what she has been looking for, the famed Jack Morrison a.k.a Soldier: 76 appears. Throughout the short story, the two reunited through some meaningful conversations.

Near the end of the story, some old photos appear, with a revelation of Soldier: 76's relationship with Vincent, as divulged in Ana and Jack's exchanges.

Jack laughed. “He got married. They’re very happy. I’m happy for him.”

The conversation opened up Soldier: 76's past, his sexuality, and his loyalty to his duty.

“Vincent deserved a happier life than the one I could give him.” Jack sighed. “We both knew that I could never put anything above my duty. Everything I fought for was to protect people like him… That’s the sacrifice I made.”
