WePlay announces Winter Madness

Winter Madness will be an online tournament with a prize pool of $100,000.

Winter is here, finally. And with Dota 2 Pro circuit round 2 quite a while away, we have had a lot of downtime. But with the announcement of WePlay Winter Madness, we will finally have some action to look forward to.

Winter Madness will be an online tournament, which will take place right after Christmas; from December 27 to January 5. The tournament will end a few days before the Bucharest Minor. It will have a $100,000 prize pool, which is quite a large sum for an online-only tournament.


The teams competing in the tournament will do so on an invite-only basis. As of now, three teams have been confirmed: Ninjas in Pyjamas, Alliance and Forward Gaming. More information on other participants will be released in the coming days. A total of 14 teams will be participating in Winter Madness.

The Russian talents for the tournament have also been finalized. Mag, CaspeRRR, Bafik, pd4liver and Droog will be the Russian talents. The English squad is yet to be announced by WePlay.  


Group stage:

27th to the 30th of December.

2 groups of 5 teams. Matches are played in the BO1 format with a round-robin system.

4 top teams from each group go to the playoffs. The last placer of the group leaves the tournament.


2nd to the 5th of January.

8 teams from group stage reach 1/8. 4 more top teams are already waiting for their rivals in 1/4.

All matches played in BO3 format. Grand Final - BO5.

Prize pool:

1st place - $50,000

2nd place - $20,000

3rd and 4th place - $7,500 each

Teams ranked from 5th to 8th receive $2,500
